Who are you willing to trust?
You know that scene in an action movie where there’s a car chase and one of the cars is going really fast in reverse, handbrake turns and then keeps going just as fast in the same direction but facing forwards?
I did that last week.
This didn’t happen on my way to the recycling centre, but courtesy of a Stunt Driving session with the excellent team at Drift Limits, thanks to a gift from my lovely daughters.
Handbrake turn – Check
J-turn – Check
J-turn followed by handbrake turn – Check(ish)
What I noticed at the time was the cool demeanour and patience of the instructor, who sat very calmly in the passenger seat whilst I span an MX-5 in multiple directions, shredded a tyre and generally took a while to get the car to point in the right direction. There were no dual controls on the car, so they really were in my hands, but didn’t bat an eyelid.
I can’t imagine there are too many other jobs outside of the emergency services where you place so much immediate trust in a total stranger. At this point I know I should end with a pithy insight into coaching or business development, but I’m just going to trust you to create your own.
